Lightning Bugs

posted Jun 14, 2010, 7:36 AM by Dennis Kurc
Went out back last night to get my pocket knife I left in the field. The mosquitoes were so bad at sunset I rushed putting together the drip irrigation lines for the pepper patch.  I inadvertently left my pocket knife at the last line so I decided to get a flashlight and retrieve it.

When I neared the open field I was pleasantly surprised by a light show from hundreds maybe thousands of lightning bugs flashing their lights in the early darkness. Truly an amazing nature display. I paused in the stillness to enjoy the view. No mosquitoes out now. Lightning bugs feed on mosquitoes.
